The Virgin Spring

Photographed by Julia Hetta and styled by Hannes Hetta for Acne Paper Issue #12

Lovely editorial styled by Hannes Hetta for Acne Paper Spring/Summer 2011. I really like the mood in the pictures and how they remind you of paintings. The style of the Acne clothes fit perfectly into the whole mood. I am really looking forward to getting my hands on a copy when I go to London next month and see this editorial in print. Venice Biennale 2011

The 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale opened its doors in June and as every year it is being held (only in odd-numbered years), I went there for a couple days. I stayed in Chioggia, which is approximately 90 minutes away from Venice by boat (I know, it sounds like a lot) but I definitely prefer to stay outside, since Venice is too overcrowded for me. Chioggia is basically like little Venice with little to no tourists and very cute too. It was also very convenient to travel by boat as my hotel was right by the pier. This year, the Biennale was not as spectacular as in recent years but somewhat very focused nonetheless. It is directed by Swiss art historian and critic Bice Curiger. The exhibition is entitled ILLUMInations. Spreading over an area of over 10,000 square metres, the exhibition is divided into two parts called Giardini and Arsenale displaying 83 artists in total. The country pavilion that you see on some photos are based in the Giardini (garden/park). I put my favourites into the slideshow below and tried to write down the informations I remembered in the descriptions of the photos.

Bits And Bobs #64

Sweater by Hope, Shirt by H&M, Jeans by Acne, Socks by Tabio, Shoes by Rachel Comey, Glasses by Moscot

After I got back from Thailand, I went straight to Venice the very next day for the 54th Biennale, but more about that in another blog entry. Today was rather chilly when the sun wasn't out, so I decided to wear this fine-knitted cotton sweater over my dotted H&M shirt. I like the detail around the collar and the open hems.

Fall 2011 Couture

Sorry for my long absence from blogging. Stable internet connections are rare in the countryside of Thailand so I thought I would give myself a little free time and resume my blog duties when I got back to Switzerland, which was this morning. I finally had some time to look at the couture shows and I absolutely love what Riccardo Tisci did for Givenchy. You can view the kind of process and how much time actually went into producing these beautiful dresses on Style.com. Azzedine Alaïa's couture collection was another standout for me this season. Again, many details about the process of making these garments here.

Spring 2012 Menswear

I am sorry but I think I have a never-ending love for Acne and there is no cure in sight. Their designs might not be ground-breaking or totally new but I love the subtle luxury of these garments and even though they're not as hefty priced as other designer brands, they don't have to hide in terms of quality. Also, they just know how to combine everything nicely together. As for the rest of my favourites below, I loved the coats and jackets shown at Burberry Prorsum, Dries Van Noten and Lanvin. If you looked at any menswear collections this season, let me know your favourites in the comments! I am still in Thailand and currently have a very slow EDGE connection to the internet over the mobile network, so bear with me if the response time is slow.
