Vogue Salon Zurich

The past two weeks were terribly busy and they didn't really leave me any time nor energy to update my blog. I want to share with you some backstage photos I took last Friday at the Vogue Salon (during Fashion Days Zurich). I was actually planning to continue with a new outfit entry, but that might have to wait a few more days. See some more backstage photos on my Visual Diary.

Institute for Fashion Design Basel Gradute Show 2011

The graduate show 2011 of the institute for fashion design in Basel took place a week ago and it was the first time I had the chance to attend. I was already impressed solely by the size and organization of the whole event and they surely do not have to hide from any regular fashion show. You already kind of notice how much money is involved and what prestige it must be in Switzerland to graduate from that school by looking at the long list of sponsors. There were 18 collections in total from all the graduates. The overall quality and finish of the clothes looked impressive as far as I could tell from my seat and you could sell them straight from the runway. Most of the clothes looked rather futuristic (in a good way) and more or less wearable. Wearability shouldn't be a criterion for a graduate collection anyway though. Shini linked me an interesting interview about this subject matter between Cathy Horyn and Louise Wilson (director of the M.A. program at Central Saint Martins). Here are my favourite looks from the show and I would love to hear how they compare to graduate students from your city or country.

Zurich Fashion Days 2010: Swiss Textiles Award

The show for the Swiss Textiles Award took place in the evening on the same day as the show for upcoming Swiss designers. I have already written on my blog entry about the Swiss Textiles Award 2009 what it is all about. This year's nominees were Damir Doma (CRO), Juun.J (KOR), Adam Kimmel (USA), Mary Katrantzou (GRE), Duro Olowu (UK), Jason Wu (USA). They all showed their Spring 2011 collection on the runway including last year's winner Alexander Wang. As usual the jury consisted of international renowned fashion editors such as Hannes Hetta (Vogue Homme International Paris), Caroline Issa (Tank Magazine), Luke Day (GQ Style), Akiko Ichikawa (Vogue Japan) and others. Before I went to the show I actually ran into one of my favourite photographers Walter Pfeiffer and two of the jury members. The Swiss Textiles Award is always kind of a special thing to me, because where else would you see six great runway collections in one show. In the end, Mary Katrantzou won the award and 100,000 Euros prize money. I think she is an excellent choice but my bet would have actually been on Damir Doma – also because of his popularity. Who would you have chosen?

Zurich Fashion Days 2010: Upcoming Swiss Designer Show

Switzerland finally got its own fashion week or rather days. The Fashion Days Zurich 2010 took place from 3rd to 6th November. Last wednesday was the fashion show for upcoming Swiss designers. The label Porternier Roth was definitely a favourite of mine. I particularly loved their leather coat and jackets. I went backstage to check out the looks in advance and quickly meet my friend Nina Egli (pictured below) who is one of the designers behind the label Toujours Toi Family Affairs. Here are some pictures from the show with my favourite looks from all of the designers. Click on any image to enlarge and check out more pictures from the show on Styleseeking Zurich.
