Institute for Fashion Design Basel Gradute Show 2011

The graduate show 2011 of the institute for fashion design in Basel took place a week ago and it was the first time I had the chance to attend. I was already impressed solely by the size and organization of the whole event and they surely do not have to hide from any regular fashion show. You already kind of notice how much money is involved and what prestige it must be in Switzerland to graduate from that school by looking at the long list of sponsors. There were 18 collections in total from all the graduates. The overall quality and finish of the clothes looked impressive as far as I could tell from my seat and you could sell them straight from the runway. Most of the clothes looked rather futuristic (in a good way) and more or less wearable. Wearability shouldn't be a criterion for a graduate collection anyway though. Shini linked me an interesting interview about this subject matter between Cathy Horyn and Louise Wilson (director of the M.A. program at Central Saint Martins). This is one of my simple everyday outfits for chilly days. The wool blazer in combination with the sweatshirt is warm enough when it is cold in the morning and evening but not too warm for sunny days. Too bad you can't see my vintage oxford shoes here that I got from my trip to London but I will bring them in another entry.

Paris Fall 2011

Another season is through with the last day of Paris fashion week fall 2011. I took my time to check every day on style.com for new collections during Paris fashion week. Lanvin is definitely my favourite from Paris once again. Givenchy is probably one of these collections, that you either hate or love – the latter for me. I also really enjoyed the collections of Haider Ackermann and Christophe Lemaire's first collection for Hermès but decided not to include them since they did not meet my personal taste. There were not that many livestreams, but for those who could not wait for the first pictures to arrive, there was NOWFASHION, which delivered them live while the models were still walking down the runway. There has been only fashion week coverage on my blog and nothing else besides my Sunday entries but since it is over now, my next entry will finally be a new outfit. I am always trying to keep up with fashion shows in the beginning of a new season but end up not having enough time to closely follow London and Milan fashion week as well. Juergen Teller for ZEITmagazin

It has been almost ten years since Juergen Teller last shot an editorial for a german magazine. ZEITmagazin comes with the german weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and they always have a high standard in regards of photography. Juergen Teller is a long-time contributor. He used to have a weekly column where he would show one photo of his archive and write a little bit about that moment shown on the photo. Since he stopped doing that I am glad that he shot the special fashion issue, which ZEITmagazin releases biannually. Current it-model Andrej Pejic, who walked Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture finale this season, is the face of the editorial – yes, it is a guy. You can see all photos here.

New York Fall 2011

New York fashion week is going to end tonight and the fashion crowd is moving on to London. While I didn't have time to watch most of the livestreams, I made sure to have a look at all the photos that appeared on style.com the day after. The designers from New York are often pretty young compared to the ones in Milan and Paris so the collections feel very fresh. I am so glad that Olivier Theyskens is back on the fashion week schedule. Here are my favourites in alphabetical order. Acne Paper No 11

Acne Paper is still my favourite magazine. Issue no 11 was released a couple of weeks ago. Every issue is about a certain theme and this one is the studio issue. As usual there are several editorial shoots in this issue and lots and lots of interviews with artists or people about their creative space and explore the connection between creativity and environment. This issue is the biggest so far with 50 pages more than the last one. You can order it online here. I'm still missing Acne Paper No 1 and 3 to have the complete collection. I am still in Milan (until next Tuesday) but I was able to take some pictures. This was my outfit from today. When I visited London last week, I fell in love with the clothes by Albam. They offer classic wardrobe pieces for men but in their own way or how they call it: Modern Crafted Clothing. They are trying to produce their clothes as close to England as possible. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of the fabric and finish are top-notch. I can't even say what I liked in particular because I basically wanted to buy everything. And I also can't stop raving about them.
