Spring 2011 Menswear

By the time I started to notice the new menswear runway collections, the menswear fashion weeks were already over. It happened during the same time as Art Basel and the FIFA World Cup (yes, I actually watch football!) and my mind just wasn't able to follow everything at once. My overall favourite this season is either Louis Vuitton or Kenzo. I find those bags by Louis Vuitton too tacky and Lanvin wasn't as convincing for me as in previous seasons but still very good. What collections did you like best from the menswear shows?

Bits And Bobs #50

T-Shirt by Acne, Chambray Trousers by American Apparel, My Father's Old Panama Hat, Shoes by Rachel Comey, Kostume Tote Bag

I totally forgot to mention last time why I like this tote bag so much. Not only did a very good friend of mine print it by hand, I also like the short handles for carrying it by hand yet they are not too short to put your arm through them. I love these new pants in blue chambray by American Apparel. It is a very light fabric, which is great for hot days during summer.

The Untold Crime

Freja Beha Erichsen photographed by Terry Richardson for Vogue Nippon August 2010

Although it is not recognizable at first sight, this editorial is indeed shot by Terry Richardson. He takes us back to the seventies with this shoot styled by George Cortina. It was pretty surprising for me to see that Terry didn't use his distinctive photography style for once.

Girl On Top

Kate Moss photographed by Venetia Scott for Dazed & Confused May 2007

I have been a very bad blogger lately and I suppose those hot summer days are to blame. Believe it or not, this is actually the first editorial I post on my blog with Kate Moss. You may have noticed that I am very much into photography right now, that has a raw and almost documentary kind of feel. I also feel so connected to this particular style because of my background in street photography. By the way have you noticed this wall covered with Kate Moss portraits on my photographs of Art Basel?

Art Basel 2010

The Art Basel 2010 took place two weeks ago and I decided to stay almost the whole week at a friend's place to be able to go to the art fair several times, because it would have been way too much if you wanted to consume it all in one single day plus lots of other little events were also happening during the Art Basel. It is the world's most important art fair for galleries and collectors. This year, the annual reunion of the international artworld attracted more than 62,500 artists, collectors, curators, and art lovers from around the globe, a new record for attendance at the show.

I spent the first day with Nina Egli (designer of Tojours Toi and Family Affairs) and also met Christian Wassmann, who won this year's art award for architecture. The following days I re-visted Art Basel and Art Unlimited several times. Art Basel is the place, where all the galleries from around the globe represent the artworks (mostly paintings, pictures, photographs and small installations) of their artists. Art Unlimited is in another building with a much bigger hall and enough space to show big installations. This time around, there were a lot of video stuff around and I am not that kind of guy, who is patient enough to stand there and watch it. I also went to see the newly-opened gallery Van Horbourg and attended the Acne Paper 10 launch at Basel's best clothing store Set&Sekt. Enough of my words, here are a few impressions of my week in Basel, click on any image to enlarge.

Eniko Mihalik and Yuri Pleskun photographed by Max Farago for Muse Summer 2010

This editorial styled by Hannes Hetta with pieces by Louis Vuitton, Chloé, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant and Proenza Schouler, just to name a few, and shot by Max Farago on the countryside creates a beautiful mood of Summer and makes me want to plan something similar with my friends.

Bits And Bobs #49

Shirt by Acne, Trousers by Whyred, Straw Hat by ASOS, Shoes by Rachel Comey, Kostume Tote Bag

I really appreciate nice tailored shirts and always loved the neat collar of the shirts by Acne. My straw hat has somewhat become my loyal friend, who's protecting me from the heat of the sun. It is not a secret anymore that Rachel Comey produces some beautiful shoes for men and I finally got my first pair. The leather is buttery soft and these oxfords are definitely worth their praise. I have got quite a large collection of different tote bags and included one of my favourites, that I am using almost every day.

Resort 2011

It is the first time this season that I really looked at the resort collections. In contrary to spring or fall collections, resort collections do not really have a specific theme or show a direction for the upcoming season but are just clothes that designers think their customers want. There have been many presentations of resort collections this year compared to last year. Maybe because Anna Wintour wanted it so. But there is a very interesting article about these in-between season collections on The Cut.
