Bits And Bobs #44

Shirt by American Apparel, Denim Trousers & Sweater by Acne, Hat by ASOS, Vintage Shoes

Just when I wanted to take some new outfit photos, it started to rain. So no special pictures this time but it is more about the outfit anyway. These slightly balloon-shaped trousers made out of very soft denim are my new favourites. They have very wide legs and give the outfit an interesting shape. During the day, I am not really wearing the sweater because it got so warm in Zurich the last few days. But I am carrying it with me for the evening when it gets a bit chilly and this habit is actually rather new for me. Before, I guess I was fine with just having cold. Silly me.

Kostume No2

A few weeks ago, there was the second fashion show by Kostume. Kostume is the effort to establish a new fashion show in Zurich for newcomers and young talents from all over the world. This includes designers as well as shops. The main organizers are Lisa Mettier and Jonas Hegi. I helped them out once again by taking photographs at the event. This time, the designers and stores presented at the show were Yvy, Starstyling, Saga Lova, Ostblock, Mia Bregar, Kimandra, Julia Winkler, Claudia Zuber and Fashionslave. If you want to see the pictures from the runway, take a look at the at the Facebook group. Here are some pictures from backstage.

I will upload some more in the following days on my Visual Diary.

Streetstyle: Lara

Lara (25), Recruiter for American Apparel. Jacket by Topshop, Shirt & Belt by American Apparel, Trousers by Zara, Shoes by COS, Vintage Scarf & Bag.

I was sitting on the terrace at my café last week when Lara was passing by. While watching her walk by, I realized I had to take her picture for my streetstyle section. So I literally jumped up from my table and ran after her. While talking to her we realized that we were doing something quite similar that day. She is responsible to scout stylish people on the street in Europe to recruit them to work at the local American Apparel store.

Grey Magazine

The next magazine I would like to introduce to you is Grey Magazine. Grey is about photography. It comes out twice a year and there are two issues out so far. Although it's a magazine, it comes as a book with a hardcover. There are several different categories inside like Designer, Editorial, Abstract and Interior Design. It's filled with beautiful photographs from the start to the last page with only little advertisment in the beginning and no articles but only short descriptions now and then. In the first issue, there's a manifesto by the editor-in-chief Valentina Ilardi Martin. I don't want to write the whole page down, but here's a short excerpt of it:

„Grey is the result of research and conviction, not strength or false provocation. Each page painted in grey – for nothing pure remains. These pages reclaim a necessary return to the simplicity of beauty, the melancholy on each page recalls a humble antiquity that values the precious work of many, made in the name of passion, dictated by a critical mood which has grown with an eye of respect towards that which has been done and said. Our research aims to transform an image into prose.“

I will buy the issue that are yet to come for sure and it already became one of the magazines I am looking forward to the most next to Acne Paper.

Café Henrici

Next up in the Zurich City Guide is my favourite café in town: Henrici. It's fairly safe to say that it's the best coffee you will get in Zurich and many other people seem to agree with me, since although they have only opened less than a year ago, there are already a lot of regular customers – like me. The coffee is so good because they put a lot of effort into picking the right mix of beans and roasting but also adjusting their machines accordingly. It goes without saying that their coffee comes in various ways and tastes.

Café Henrici is situated at a beautiful square in the old town of Zurich. To sit on the terrace and watch people pass by must be one of my favourite things to do and I often spend more time here than I should. Besides coffee, they also offer all the other drinks you would expect like tea, beer, wine and other. In case you get hungry there are tartes flambées, soups, sandwiches, bagles, brownies, cakes and lots more. Although their food and coffee is surprisingly different, the prices are low compared to other cafés in town.

There are three different kind of areas for you to sit inside: the lounge with sofas, tables and chairs and the bar. On Tuesday night, they always organize a local music act, mostly songwriters, to perform at the café – the entry is free. Did I mention that the staff is super-friendly? It all somehow sounds too good to be true, but it is. They must be practicing some kind of dark voodoo.

Streetstyle Selection #5

In Zurich, I often see people with a very nice style when I go out in the night (like last weekend at Kostume), but I usually don't have my digital camera with me. I never see those people during the day or early evening, so I wonder where they are hiding. While I am still waiting for them to cross my path in Zurich, I am presenting you my monthly selection of streetstyle pictures from other blogs.

The Visual Journal Of Roberta Ridolfi

I recently stumbled upon the visual journal of Roberta Ridolfi. I like how there are only photographs and no text at all, to let the visitor be focused on the photographs. The photographs appear to be raw and genuine but they all create somehow a dreamy atmosphere. I made a little selection but take a look at the website to see more of them.

Bits And Bobs #43

Button-Down Shirt by A.P.C., Trousers by H&M, Cardigan by COS, Shoes by TOMS

My collection of white shirts keeps growing and growing. This particular one is made in a sturdy oxford weave and is perfect for the chilly spring weather when you don't feel like putting on a jacket. In other personal news, I got accepted into art school in Zurich for photography class starting this fall. Hope it is going to be an exciting time and I will surely keep you updated with all the upcoming photographs on my blogs.

Fashionslave

Part of Zurich's newest shopping destination opened its doors this month: Im Viadukt. The viaducts exist since 1894 and are used as a pathway for trains. After renovating the viaducts the last couple years, they decided to offer the space underneath them to various kinds of stores or restaurants. The renovation work is reaching its end and the first batch of stores opened two weeks ago. I am kind of disappointed when I look at the list of stores that made it in the end, but there are still some very interesting ones – like Fashionslave.

Fashionslave is situated in viaduct number 29. It's a concept store offering exclusively menswear from labels such as Raf Simons, Henrik Vibskov and Odeur. Besides that, it's a place for artists and designers to collaborate and showcase their stuff. There's also a hair and make-up artist available if you need more than just a change in clothes.

I created a new category called Zurich City Guide to collect all my entries so far about shops and other places in Zurich but more importantly also for the ones in the future.
